"REACH WAR MEMORIAL"

To the eternal memory of the men of REACH who died in the service of their country
Eight in the Great War of 1914-1919

On the Fair Green by the road side in Reach a red Mansfield stone square capped pillar on a double plinth surrounded by a gravelled area enclosed by a low post and chain fence. The inscription is on one face only.
Built in the early 1920's, in 2002, with a grant of £250 towards the cost from the War Memorials Trust, the memorial was cleaned, concrete replaced where necessary, the chains were repainted and the posts fixed. All the lettering was re-cut and painted black. The re-dedication took place on November 10th 2009. There are no names for 1939-1945 as Reach was lucky enough to have all her men return home.

The inscription on the front face of the memorial gives the rank, initial, surname and regiment and also the cause and date of death, and is in order of the day they died, it reads:-

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
